Membership Covenant

Preamble: We, the covenant members of Horizon City Church, having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, hereby solemnly and joyfully enter into congregational covenant, offering theses affirmations and pledges to one another:

We affirm that we have wholeheartedly embraced Jesus Christ as the Lord, Savior, and supreme Treasure of our lives.

We affirm that we have been properly baptized in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

We affirm that we joyfully endorse the Apostles Creed and the Nicene Creed, and every sentiment set forth and implied therein.

We promise that if, at any time, we begin to doubt the theological accuracy of the Apostles Creed or the Nicene Creed, then we shall graciously and humbly express those doubts to the church leaders, without delay, and shall enter into good faith dialogue, as needed, with the church leaders, seriously and humbly considering their wisdom and counsel, so that, with God’s help, we can bring remedy to those expressed doubts.

We commit to continually, humbly, and enthusiastically welcome and test biblically the teaching, instructions, and exhortations from the elders of Horizon City Church.

We commit to frequently fellowshipping with one another, seeking each other’s edification.

We commit to regularly participate in corporate worship gatherings, as often as possible, and we commit to make every possible effort to rearrange work schedules, activities, and responsibilities, if possible, in order to ensure frequent corporate worship participation.

We commit to maintain family and personal devotions.

We commit to educate our children in the Christian faith.

We commit to daily pray for one another.

We commit to aid one another in sickness and distress, whenever possible.

We commit to be slow to take offense with one another and to always be ready for reconciliation.

We commit to pray for our community, city, nation, and elected officials.

We commit to seek the salvation of our unbelieving friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers.

We commit to take personal responsibility for the discipleship and mentorship of the people in my life.

We commit to pray for the world, including, but not limited to, Christian believers in other nations, missionaries, world leaders, and peoples impacted by significant world events.

We commit, with God’s help, to be hospitable to those persons seeking to enter into our church family, helping our church to become an easy-entry community.

We commit, with God’s help, to pursue holy living and exemplary conduct.

We commit to avoid any shady or unethical practices in our workplace and business dealings.

We commit, with God’s help, to avoid drunkenness and substance abuse.

We commit to pay our taxes rightfully due to the government and to be good citizens of the jurisdictions in which we live.

We commit, with God’s help, to refrain from any sexual relations outside the bounds of covenant marriage.

We commit to watching over one another, including rebuking one another whenever necessary, with all love and gentleness.

We commit to regularly, cheerfully, and sacrificially contribute financially to the support of the ministry of this church.

We commit that when we remove from this church, we will graciously notify the church leaders, and, if possible, unite with a like-minded church, without delay, where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant.
