Donating an appreciated asset often allows you to maximize a gift. If you choose to donate Stocks, ETFs, or Mutual Funds, you will receive a tax deduction for the value of the asset, as of the day you donate it, regardless of the cost basis, and you’ll avoid any capital gains taxes.
