Meet Our Lead Church Planters

Kenny and Malaina Ortiz, along with their two young kids, moved from Minnesota to Florida in June 2023 to launch Horizon City.

Kenny was a pastor at Cities Church and professor at Bethlehem College & Seminary. Malaina was previously a missionary to France and then worked as a college recruiter for several years.

Kenny has been dreaming of church planting since his college days, more than 20 years ago, and Malaina has become his biggest supporter. They are currently recruiting a launch team to be a part of this church plant.

Sermons by Kenny Ortiz

“Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important.”

—C.S. Lewis

Members Beliefs

Our Members will be people who wholeheartedly believe the gospel of Jesus Christ and embrace the essentials of the historic Christian faith. We are in the process of crafting a Membership Statement of Faith for our Members to affirm.

Members will not be expected to agree with the Elders on every point of theology. Total agreement on every secondary and tertiary doctrine will not be a prerequisite for membership.

If you’re cool with us, we’re cool with you. If you’ve got questions or doubts, let’s grab coffee and chat.

Elders Beliefs

Our Elders will hold to theological convictions that can be summed up with these five Cs:

  • Conservative
  • Credobaptist
  • Calvinist
  • Complementarian
  • Covenantal

Besides our doctrine, we have our Elder Commitments. These are the commitments that our Elders make to the congregation and to one another.

Want more details about our Elders’ doctrine? Feel free to check out the statements that our Elders will joyfully affirm:

“In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity.”

—St. Augustine of Hippo

The Pillar Network is a community of doctrinally-aligned SBC and international Baptist churches that are committed to cooperating together to equip, plant, and revitalize churches around the globe.

Send Network is the church planting arm of the North American Mission Board (NAMB), the domestic missions agency of the Southern Baptist Convention. This is a coalition of church-planting churches and church plants, chartered and guided by NAMB.

The Orlando Church Planting Network (OCPN) is an inter-denominational collective of like-minded churches in the Orlando area working together to saturate Central Florida with healthy gospel-centered churches.

“I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus.”

—The Apostle Paul
